Voice for Victims Foundation grew out of a grassroots movement started by Ben Cannon in 2021, after he was himself the victim of a violent crime. That movement sought to highlight shortcomings in a system that too often appeared to prioritise the rights of offenders over the needs of victims. Working with, and standing alongside, so many victims also exposed a significant gap in support following crime – particularly serious violent crime – where victims were often left to pick themselves up and navigate complex systems on their own.
While services and charities exist for victims of crimes such as domestic violence and sexual assault, there has historically been no dedicated service for victims of serious violent crimes such as home invasions, grievous bodily harm and attempted murder. Voice for Victims Foundation has been established to fill that gap and to serve as a first point of contact for victims of any crime.
Where specialist services already exist, the Foundation will guide victims to the right support and provide warm handovers. Where no such services exist, Voice for Victims will provide the support and guidance – helping victims understand their options, navigate police and court processes, insurance and compensation pathways, and feel less alone at an incredibly difficult time. In addition to this guidance, the Foundation will also provide practical support where needed. This may include assistance such as locksmiths, crime scene cleaning, meal deliveries or temporary accommodation – whatever is required to help victims feel safe, secure and able to cope.
The Foundation will officially launch on 6 March 2026 with a lunch at Tangalooma Island Resort, the first of its events to raise the funds needed to build a sustainable organisation capable of supporting victims for many years to come.
Establishing and maintaining a strong governance framework has been a priority from the outset, with Chairman Ben Cannon acknowledging the key role Advivo plays is supporting the Foundation on an ongoing basis as it grows and delivers its services.
“We are incredibly thankful to Advivo for their generous pro bono accounting support. Having trusted advisers beside us – now and into the future – allows us to focus on what matters most—guiding victims through what comes next and providing practical support when they need it most.”
